Mellow Yellow

Day 17 in the 2016 VeganMoFo: Something Rare – What colour do you rarely eat? Make something that colour!

Mellow Yellow is a curious song, rumoured to be about smoking banana skins and vibrators! It was all going on in the 60s! I’m fairly mad about saffron but admit I would have gone for a song about turmeric if I could have found one. Turmeric is a yellow spice used in Indian cooking. The main active ingredient in it is curcumin (E100). Some studies suggesting that curcumin may have some anti-cancer properties that could help stop precancerous changes becoming cancer, but there is no hard evidence yet. However, research does show that there are low rates of certain types of cancer in countries where people routinely eat 100-200mg of curcumin every day.

I am totally mad about turmeric, I put it in all sorts of things – although I don’t eat much yellow food in general. So here’s one for #VeganMoFo

Scrambled tofu with onion, pepper, oregano and turmeric, served with toast and yellow tomato. Yes that’s a giant yellow cup of Earl Grey tea in the background.

I hadn’t really thought about the fact that I rarely eat yellow food. Scrambled tofu is such a good choice!

It was a toss up between yellow and pink!
