To Diversity and Beyond!

Why is it that most of the fruit and vegetables we get in the UK (certainly in the supermarkets) comes in uniform size, shape and colour and lack taste? ‘Insipid’ I heard UK tomatoes described as by a Spaniard who was presented with a regulation-sized, flavourless red tomato, like you would find in Tesco or Asda. We seem to have a very limited imagination when it comes to food. This is why one of my favourite things when I go on holiday is to shop at local fruit and veg markets and look for crazy coloured weird shaped shit! Check out this market in Barcelona…

My local fruit and veg shop does stock some non-regualation foods; these tomatoes (see below) for example. They tasted great too! Support your local shops and with any luck we’ll increase diversity a bit more and have a few interesting food adventures along the way. Should I get out more?
