Chick Pea Curry (chanas or chole) sindhi style

This is the book my friend Ruth gave Marc for Christmas and tonight he cooked his first curry from it! Not his first curry you understand? This was his first curry from this book; 50 Great Curries of India.

He made Chick Pea Curry (chanas or chole) sindhi style. It was flavoured with onions, garlic, fresh ginger, tomatoes, cardamoms, cloves, bay leaves, peppercorns, cumin seeds, asafoetida, turmeric, garam masala, coriander and ground pepper. Unfortunately we didn’t have any dried mango powder (amchoor), so I’ll have to keep an eye out for that!

The curry turned out like this…

Along with the chick peas, we had onions, green beans and cauliflower in the curry. It was a most tasty dish! It had an unusual flavour, not hot, but very tasty – almost aromatic like a Thai curry but with a different flavour. It went very well with basmati rice but you could have it with naan bread, puri or chapatis. I would certainly eat this again and I am looking forward to more dishes cooked from recipes in this book.
